Rosa (Rose) is the flower of my home state New York. Syringa (Purple Lilac) is the flower or the state where I currently reside New Hampshire. This painting is the combining of two places that are very dear to me. New York and New Hampshire are extremely opposite yet I find things in both that I love and appreciate. I have always been fond of contrast/dissimilarity, and could always find the beauty in variance. I enjoy the idea of opposites meshing and creating something beautiful!
* I used the two scientific names Rosa and Syringa to personify the painting. The scientific names combined gives it the feel of a woman's name.

My name is April Mickens. I am an artist originally from The Bronx New York but am currently residing in New Hampshire. I love to paint using acrylic on canvas and paper. I create vibrant, colorful images inspired by thought, life, and things that pique my interest.
