Artist's Description

In Mexico, La Danza de los Voladores (The Dance of the Fliers) is an ancient sacred ritual, now performed publicly in many parts of the country. Four Indigenous men are sitting by Lake Chapala, prior to the commencement of the sacred ritual, in which 4 men revolve in the air, while hanging upside down by a rope and slowly descending from a high pole--all the while they are playing an eerie music on long wooden whistles.

About Kevin Gaudette

Kevin Gaudette

Born in 1947, I grew up by the sea in historic Quincy, Ma., and so was accustomed to SEE-ing long distances. Having grown up in a traumatic family environment, I developed a skill common for children in such environments--an acute sensitivity to upcoming changes in psychic weather. During 1967-68, as an amateur boxer while at Boston College (majoring in Sociology), I jogged every morning along the beach, and so developed (1) a sense of the rhythms of Nature and (2) the value of a disciplined lifestyle. As a Welterweight Boxer, my style was that of a Counter-puncher, rather than an aggressor. Also during this 1967-68 Senior year at BC, I began roaming around Boston with my 8 m/m camera, particularly Boston's small Skid Row.where I was...
