Little dogs have a way about them.

Though they are small and easily stepped over and stepped upon by larger dogs, they don’t see themselves this way. In their minds, little dogs must be big dogs, because it’s the only way to explain how they so frequently behave.

Ruby is one of these little dogs, a Chihuahua – Dachshund cross that has been dubbed the Chiweenie. Lovers of this dog breed pronounce them one of the cutest dogs around, amongst the options in the designer dog breed fashion world.

They have an eternal puppy look to them, the impression of which is helped by their eternal puppy size. As a full grown Chihuahua – Dachshund dog, Ruby still fits easily into a human hand or, in a mode of transportation she more prefers, tucked inside a purse. From this perch she looks out and looks cute, gathering admiring looks and comments from passersby.

So it is only fitting that Ruby, the royal and distinctive dog, should dress up for her pet portrait with tiara and necklace, much like the princess that she knows that she is. She rests easily upon a soft, plush pillow, her preferred choice for sleeping, and looks out upon the world in her stately, confident, “small dog that is convinced it is a large dog” manner.

And why not?

Small dogs deal with a lot of disadvantages, not the least of which is disdain from the family cat. They are easily tumbled, ignored, and played with by larger dogs, and if they are not going to get tumbled, ignored, or turned into a plaything, they quickly learn to use their sharp bark, their ability to dart and run, and their royal aggression to ensure that their place in the household of pets and humans is not at the bottom.

So much better, in their view, to rule from the top.
