Description
The Rufous-Naped Lark (Mirafra africana) measures about 7 inches in length, has a short tail, and has red wings which are seen in flight. It stands and walks with an upright stance. The Rufous-Naped Lark is found in lightly wooded, dry savannas and dry grasslands in much of central and southern Africa including Kenya and Tanzania. It is one of the 5 lark species that we observed during our safari in Tanzania. The male draws attention to itself with bold and repeated wing displays from prominent perches, accompanied by a loud melodious call.
This Rufous-Naped Lark singing its song was photographed at the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, in Tanzania, on 1-13-2016. I used a Nikon D810 camera body and a Nikon 500mm f/4 VR2 lens to capture this image.
