Both of us lived in Santa Ana for several years before we even met, and we both graduated from Santa Ana High school. At the time, the only high school in town. I'm from Missouri, and Lynne is from Washington. We got married in September of 1962,
then moved from Santa Ana to Bellingham Wa., in 1965. In 1998, we were back in California, living about 5 miles from Santa Cruz. We took a vacation to Santa Ana, and didn't recognize ANYTHING! We went to see our first apartment, which was in one building with a whole bunch more just like ours, and in a neighborhood of lines of the same kinds of buildings. When we moved in in 1962, the apartments were all new, and the rent was $70.00 a month. After a few months there, the owners did a bit of "beautification" (2 very small trees) and raised everyone's rent $5.00. When we went by in "88, it was a slum area, with police everywhere doing a drug bust. I guess it's true; you can never go back.
OOPS! I'm sorry. I hit the wrong dadgum key and didn't get to finish what I wanted to say, and that being that I very much knew that whenever you sent us another beauty, it would be beyond 'special.' This is so cool. My wife and I drove a rural mail route for years, and now are on just a relief basis, but I don't remember having the luxury of so many boxes together. The route we drive has I think around 30 something addresses, but we go over a hundred miles to get to them all. Where did you take this? It looks so much like north eastern Oregon, where we used to live, and still have family. So good to hear from you, and thank you so much for posting this. Great! f/v
Norma Warden replied:
I took this in southern California. I am a native Oregonian, myself, born and raised in Portland. I moved down near Los Angeles to be near my kids and grand kids, and it's going on 5 years now.
Hey there Stranger! It's been a while. Hope all is well in your world.
