Saint Felicity left us an account of her imprisonment. After her martyrdom in the arena, the account was finished by those who knew her. Perpetual wrote that though the conditions in the prison were unbearable, worse still was being separated from her baby. Two deacons paid the guards to move Perpetual to a better place in the prison where her mother and brother could bring her baby to her. When she received permission for her baby to stay with her she recalled, "my prison suddenly became a palace for me."

Saint Perpetua is the patron saint of married women.

Saint Felicity was a slave and companion to Perpetual. At the time of her imprisonment she was eight months pregnant. Roman law forbid the shedding of innocent blood by executing an expectant mother, and Felicity prayed the child would be delivered in time for her to join her companions in martyrdom. Two days before the execution, Felicity went in to a painful labor, while the guards insulted her and made fun of her. She gave birth to a healthy girl who was adopted and raised by one of the Christian women of Carthage.

Saint Felicity is the patron saint of those who died because of their faith.
