Description
Saltatory conduction of nerve impulse, computer artwork. Nerve impulses move along myelinated nerves by saltatory conduction. The myelin does not cover the entire axon. It contains breaks known as nodes of Ranvier. Action potentials (nerve impulses) moving down the axon jump from node to node (saltatory conduction) and so travel faster than in non-myelinated nerves where the signal propagates down the entire length of the nerve.
