Artist's Description

"Saugeen Shores" This is the first demonstration piece for “Wind, Waves and Weather” 2007. There were twelve very nice and motivated artists and it was great to work with them. The view from the north shore of the Saugeen toward the south shore, is always a motivational to start. I wanted to illustrate techniques to do the relatively smooth water of the river and to keep the texture the same or at least similar across the entire painting. I also wanted to show that water was not blue. Water, like snow and the sky, are full of colours and we just have to learn to slow down and really see them. Note that the Ojibway term for confluence of the waters is "Saugeen".

About Phil Chadwick

Trained at Queens University as a nuclear physicist, Phil the Forecaster has been a professional meteorologist since 1976. Painting has however been his passion forever. For ten years, he studied under the late Mario Airomi, a famous Italian artist. Phil paints what he knows best: weather, nature, canoes and his family. There are not enough hours in the day to record the inspiration that abounds. Phil paints mainly en plein air striving for impressionistic realism. Something intangible and sometimes magical enters the art when one is actually out in the elements surrounded by inspiration.
