My sister in law absolutley loves it. She sent a picture of it ot us. When we join her in Hawaii we will be looking for one for our own walls...I love the colors! If our walls weren't already filled here I'd already have one for myself as well...

Artist's Description

Scorpion fly. Female scorpion fly (Panorpa communis) on a leaf. This fly gets its name from the swollen end segments of the male's abdomen, which are carried above the rest of the body, in a scorpion-like fashion. The scorpion fly feeds on over-ripe fruit, dead insects and other carrion. The adult inhabits shady vegetation, the female laying her eggs in the soil, where the larva lives as a scavenger before pupation. The fly is found in the hedgerows of Europe.

About David Aubrey

Science Photo Library was founded in 1981 by Michael Marten, one of the authors of "Worlds Within Worlds", a book exploring different ways to observe the universe - from electron micrographs, to images of earthrise taken from the Apollo spacecraft. When Marten started receiving requests for the beautiful images in the book, he had an idea of setting up Science Photo Library. Since then, Science Photo Library has continued to work alongside world acclaimed photographers and the leading science and medical experts to provide a central source of the best science and specialist imagery available. Although the collection started with scientific images, it has grown to encompass all aspects of science and their impact on everyday life.
