Francisco Zuniga (1912 - 1998)
The Costa Rican artist Francisco Zuniga (1912-1998) took, for a short while, drawing lessons at the Art School of San Jos, before he worked from 1928 to 1934 in his father's business as a sculptor's assistant. In 1936 Zuniga immigrated to Mexico where he studied design and sculpture. In 1938 he became a professor of sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts La Esmeralda in Mexico City and later worked as a freelance artist.
Zuniga's preferred subject is the human, mostly female body of the rural population, focusing on its typical forms. Francisco Zuniga's works are in the collections of major museums such as both the Museum of Modern Art in New York and in Mexico City. is in very good condition. It is nicely framed in the original frame which measures 30.5" x 39" in height. The painting is hand signed on the lower right and dated 1979. Additional photos are available upon request.
