Description

Much of the land loss is associated with the salt water intrusion, thus killing off the oaks and other trees and vegetation that are not salt-tolerant. The debate has been going on for many years regarding the loss of land in South Louisiana. The catalyst are the levees along the Mississippi blocking the much needed replenishment of nutrients and soils that once covered these areas. During the spring floods, the river and all its distributaries would overflow their banks and spread the sediment across the entire delta.
