Palms, like this one used inside the Gaylord Opryland Hotel in Nashville, TN, are widely used in landscaping. They are some of the most popular of plant families from which many foods, such as coconuts, palm oil, dates and acai fruit are derived. The original palm tree photograph has been rendered in sepia-toned grayscale using a pen and ink filter.

Although I have no formal training in photography, I have always enjoyed taking pictures. Photography has been a hobby for over 30 years: from the simplicity of a tele-instamatic camera, to learning the intricacies of the more challenging 35mm. I explored 35mm low light photography at Mardi Gras parades with my dad's old Argus camera which had no light attachment. Also used it on vacations, still getting by without any light attachment - the camera was so old an attachment could no longer be purchased for it, if it in deed was ever available. Later, I purchased a Yashica 35GSN and had the ability to use external lighting with it. Eventually I added an APS camera to the mix and in recent years have gone digital.
