Shoshone Point along the south rim of the Grand Canyon is a mile off the beaten track and therefore provides a measure of solitude. From this view we can see the Kaibab Limestone of Shoshone Point as it points out to far away Zoroaster Temple bathed in late afternoon light. In between we look down on the pie shaped top of massive Newton Butte.
This is my first attempt at a SMALL 8"x10" Grand Canyon painting. Many of today's Fine Art Galleries are requesting tiny to small paintings that are not only more affordable but can still fit somewhere on an avid art collector's wall.
While painting this I listened to music of the Grand Canyon and also a CD named
Inner Passion, a duet by Cellist Tina Guo and Pianist Peter Kater. My only daughter loves Tina's brilliant performances and we both wondered if she has ever been to the Grand Canyon as she had visited Tucson last June. We both thought that it would be a spectacular setting for her to do a video performing from that rocky rim at Shoshone.
I would love to hear her perform a medley of Ferde Grofe's five songs from The Grand Canyon Suite. One day there to start at dawn for the first song SUNRISE, then do the second number PAINTED DESERT, the third ON THE TRAIL, the fourth SUNSET and then the fifth and final piece named CLOUDBURST. I first listened to the Grand Canyon Suite as a boy years before even seeing the canyon. Ferde Grofe's famous Suite demonstrates how inspiring and motivating the world's grandest canyon can be. Anyway, I am sure that the National Park Service could assist in making our day dream possible!
