Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

The Shotover River near Queenstown on the South Island of New Zealand sounds like a place that ought to be dedicated to extreme sports. Indeed, if you google the name, you will find many links to jetboat tours that noisily rip through the narrow canyon many times a day. We elected to simply take in the incredible beauty of the rocky cliffs and the turquoise water punctuated by the yellow flowering (albeit reviled) gorss from a short hike along the river edge. Where the river gets shallow and rocky, you lose the jet boats and just get to enjoy the peace and quiet. The name of the river correctly suggests that this 75-kilometre (47 mi) long river is fast flowing, with numerous rapids. The river flows generally south from the Southern Alps before flowing into the Kawarau River east of Queenstown.
