Description
I've come to call this barred owl Buddy because he feels like a friend now. He can usually be found sitting on a mossy tree branch on a path that borders a forest on one side and an open field on the other side. I've watched him hunt and eat snakes, then doze for awhile. He tolerates me fiddling with my camera settings and setting up my tripod. I try to do these things quietly so as not to disturb him, and we seem to have come to an agreement. Owls probably fascinate me more than any other raptor because they're more elusive...normally they're hard to spot because they usually hunt at dawn and dusk. But not Buddy...he seems to enjoy hunting any time of day and he's not shy about letting me watch. I must admit I would have a harder time if I ever saw him catch a squirrel but so far he's completely disinterested in rodents from what I've seen.
