Description
Silurian landscape. Artwork of wetland plants, geysers and volcanoes during the Silurian Period (440-360 million years ago). This scene is based on a time 400 million years ago, preserved in the Rhynie Chert fossil bed in Scotland. These plant fossils were created when geysers engulfed the plants with mineralised water, preserving delicate details of their anatomy. The plants shown here include club mosses such as Asteroxylon mackiei and Aglaophyton.
