Description
As I painted these vivid red and buff roses blooming together, they appeared to me to be like bright faces in a garden - and I began to think of this painting as the Garden of the AGD sisterhood. The sky hints at the eternal pledge we make as sisters, and the AGD symbols are tucked among the bright leaves and flowers.
The painting medium is watercolor, with transparent washes creating the illusion of layered rose petals, the gleaming dew drops, as well as the small photorealistic touches of AGD symbols - the pearl glowing inside the red rose, and the badge traced faintly upon a leaf. A glimpse of our faithful mascot squirrel - his bushy tail - even flashes between the leaves!
Creating this painting was very personal to me, as I re-visited memories I hadn't recalled in years - the experience of sisterhood and the friendships which have lasted long decades past my graduation. It was a true joy to make this painting, and I hope it brings many others happiness, too.
