FANTASTIC! My dad was a maintainer on F-105's in the early 1960s, and wore the blue "Thunderchief" patch on his fatigues. This was a birthday present for him, and the smile when he pulled it out of the box said I'd struck gold.

Artist's Description

These lovely, iridescent beetles are ferocious predators. They are fast runners with huge jaws and hunt on the ground. They can fly, and do so at any sign of something getting too close which makes them the very dickens to photograph. I am an excellent sneak, however, and sometimes I luck out:>). I actually got a shot of a mating pair; they were occupied and didn't notice me as quickly - LOL. This picture was taken May 25, 2012, in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, USA. These are beneficial as they eat other insects, and there are a number of species. For homework, please read:

About Mother Nature

Mother Nature

I invite you to visit my blog - Nature's Wonders - which is all about the natural world in my neighborhood. I always wanted to try photography, and my retirement offered an opportunity to do just that. The natural world is my first love. Here you will find pictures of things both large (landscapes, for instance) and small (macro) that catch my eye. I hope the images serve as a window into the natural world many of you don't have the chance to see. In a sense, I'm trying to create a guided nature trail, sharing what information I have about the subject. I'm always grateful for new and better information and welcome all input. Learning is food for the mind and soul. Nothing is ever...
