Skaftafell, on the Icelandic south coast is one of the most famous national parks in the country. The park offers breathtaking views of the southern plains. From time to time, after a volcanic eruption under the Vatnajökull ice cap, water makes its way to the sea with destructive force. A system of dykes has been built in an effort to control those flows somewhat.
