Description
Skunk Cabbage is a wildflower that blooms in February and March. The spathe pops up through ice and snow because the plant generates internal heat. It's like a carrion plant - it emits an odor to attract insects which pollinate it.
These huge, beautiful leaves fill the open space between a creek and our road.

My eye takes a ride, leaf to leaf, up the page and into what might be a hidden tree. Intriguing photograph!! f/L

It is a hidden tree:>) Where the skunk cabbage grows is very wet and lush. About 100 feet away the undergrowth is thin and the walking is easy. Our geological underpinnings is diabase and a lot of it! Not much topsoil to be had but the plants make the most of what's there:>) Thanks for the visit, my friend!
