Description
The history of this carving is not well known. Some have theorized that it was probably created by the ancestors of what are today known as the Owens Valley Paiute, possibly as long as 8,000 years ago. The Sky Rock Petroglyph is a giant panel facing up towards the heavens. The panel is on a boulder that is as large as a small house.

Oh my goodness, what a cool place!
Michele James replied:
Yes Karen, a very magical place! I photographed this photo in the evening and then the next morning. The morning shot was crazy! Lightening was striking very close. I had help getting up on the rock in the morning and there was no way for me to get down without help. My boyfriend had gone back to camp to make me tea so I was stuck up there. Very scary. There is a little cave type thing on the rock so I was all scrunched up in there like a lizard! I guess the gods may have been angry at me? As soon as he came back I got down! Storm went away. I'm a believer......Thank you for looking!

Thank you! This is the third time I have been back to Sky Rock. I have a picture in my head but it never seems to work out!
