Founded in September 1565 by Don Pedro Menendez de Aviles of Spain, St. Augustine is the longest continually inhabited European-founded city in the United States - more commonly called the "Nation's Oldest City."
St. Augustine is known for its historic sites, festivals, unspoiled beaches, moderate climate, attractions, and shopping. Some visitors come to experience Fort Castillo de San Marcos or marvel at the Spanish architecture, churches and Flagler College with its Tiffany glass. They also enjoy the parks, carriage rides, boat or walking tours, and one-of-a-kind restaurants.
St. Augustine is a perennial favorite on the "must-see" lists of US destinations in large part because of its pedestrian-friendly historic streets, dramatic 19th-century architecture, and fun pirate vibe.
