Slice of Life Mud Oven Chulha Tandoor Indian Village Rajasthani 1d.
I recently had the privilege of visiting and staying in several villages in Rajasthan, India. It was an amazing experience and a real eye-opener. This image is one from a series depicting village life scenes.
In this series of images, a woman is cooking dinner on the chulha (read on), while the menfolk of the house squat around nearby, and they all chat and catch up on the day�s events.
A family in the village may typically have an open oven or stove for cooking, called a chulha, constructed out of mud, built along one side wall of the front patio or courtyard. Sometimes the chulha is built in a corner of a semi-open shed in the courtyard. Logs of firewood are used to build a fire in the chulha, and the cooking takes place right there in the open air.
