Wilson's Snipe, formerly known as the Common Snipe.
I have to laugh as I type out my personal description for this bird. We called this bird the HOO HOO bird for a long time because of the sound it makes as it winnows. It flies up high and drops and the wind rushing through the feathers makes a unique sound. (google it, I am sure there is a sound wave somewhere).
Anyhow, they live on my property and that's because it is wet and grassy! After YEARS of trying to capture a photo of one, I finally did!! July 2013
A common shorebird of wet, grassy spots, the Wilson's Snipe has an extremely long bill that it uses to probe in the mud for small invertebrates. Its camouflage is so good that it often is not seen before it flushes from the grass.
