The Smith Tower, quaint as it may seem now, was once not only the tallest building in Seattle, but also the tallest building west of the Mississippi. In its day, it defined Seattle just as much as the Space Needle does today, and it is still my favorite Seattle landmark!

Steve's first camera was given to him when he was but a wee lad of two...maybe three years old. His parents took it away shortly thereafter when he displayed a distinct inability to grasp the concept of "film advancement". A less than auspicious beginning, to be sure, but Steve got a second chance a few years later when he received a Kodak FlashFun Hawkeye camera for Christmas. Nothing and no one were safe; he became quite bothersome to family, friends and critters alike. He turned a page in high school when he enrolled in a photography class. His father gave him his Argus C44R 35mm rangefinder camera; he signed up for the yearbook staff and became annoying to a whole new group people. Steve spent eight of his twenty year Marine Corps...
