Aboriginal elder Uncle Max Dulumunmun Harrison and his eight-year-old great-grandson, Kayen Bannon-Harrison, led one of seven smoking ceremonies, which, for the first time, are a focal point of Australia Day events.
A smoking ceremony is an ancient custom among Indigenous Australians that involves burning various native plants to produce smoke, which is believed to have cleansing properties and the ability to ward off bad spirits. Leaves from plants from round the world were put in for burning and cleansing.
This picture was taken 26th of January on Australian Day in Sydney Harbour.
