Great macro. Excellent details

Mother Nature replied:

Thank you kindly, Angel! They become adorable moths that fly like hummingbirds and drink nectar form flowers:>)

Another great photo of him!

Mother Nature replied:

Reminds me of a Shar Pei - LOL.

Not vivid in colour like expected also it was an expensive gift for someone that arrived screwed up in a thin polythene bag. Not even folded with card to keep in place , even budget brands on the cheap high street stores have them folded and well presented very disappointed to be honest.

Great colors literally perfect print wise! I just wish it was thicker like a warm blanket. But look wise it was perfect. I used it for a contest I was doing.

Artist's Description

This is a dark phase of this caterpillar. It is more commonly a greenish yellow and some phases are a mix. I never saw this before. This caterpillar was munching happily on a bush honeysuckle, although they like Dogbane and Snowberry. Hawk moths are also called Sphinx moths or Hummingbird moths; this particular type flies during the day and drinks nectar, so you'll find them feeding at flowers. Their wingspan can be up to 2 inches. I think they look like flying crawfish. There are generally two hatches a year - three in some areas. This caterpillar was photographed at Green Lane Reservoir in Red Hill, Pennsylvania, USA, on September 26, 2012. You can have some fun reading about them at: http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/species/Hemaris-diffinis

About Mother Nature

I invite you to visit my blog - Nature's Wonders - which is all about the natural world in my neighborhood. http://mothernature2014.blogspot.com/ I always wanted to try photography, and my retirement offered an opportunity to do just that. The natural world is my first love. Here you will find pictures of things both large (landscapes, for instance) and small (macro) that catch my eye. I hope the images serve as a window into the natural world many of you don't have the chance to see. In a sense, I'm trying to create a guided nature trail, sharing what information I have about the subject. I'm always grateful for new and better information and welcome all input. Learning is food for the mind and soul. Nothing is ever...
