Description
This was painted for the Tohono Chul Park annual 10 x 10 Fundraiser. "An Invitational Exhibition of small works by the artists who have made the exhibits at Tohono Chul shine throughout the last year."
I decided to feature our Arizona Sonoran Desert mountains and cactus blooms for this year's show. Here we see a Sonoran sunset with orange barrel cactus blooms. These blooms close up for the night. This kind of cacti feature long fish hook shaped thorns along shorter straight ones to discourage critters who would eat them. I have experienced many a sunset that turns the sky and landscape into fiery hues!

I love the feeling of just so much big sky overhead. It really adds to the solitary atmosphere of this lovely piece of art. The muted colors of the background are so striking with just a nice touch of bold color to set it all off. Gorgeous painting. L/F Featured in American Desert Southwest.
