Southern Pacific Double headed steam locomotive pulling a passenger train leaving the Pacific Grove Station and heading towards Monterey and Finally to San Francisco just passing Lovers Point.
Visible in photo are the Japanese Tea House, Dance Pavillion, W.F. Smith house, Hopkins Seaside Lab., the new Concrete Pier still under construction with the two Concrete 30 foot tall pillars at the end of the pier that were toppled into the bay in July of 1909. Also visible behind the train and smoke is Seven Gables and Roserox on Ocean View Ave.

After the sudden passing passing of Mr. Hathaway in January 2021, the Monterey County Historical Society became the beneficiary of his collection.
