Description
This image Spitfire Under Storm Clouds is based on a photograph taken at South Cerney in 1986 and shows Spitfire Mk 1A [AR213 G-AIST] parked beside a freshly harvested wheat field ready to taxi when the storm clouds have cleared.
AR213 is the only remaining airworthy Mk1 Spitfire and was delivered to the RAF in 1941 and spent its wartime service as a training aircraft with 57 and 53 OTU. It was sold off in 1947 as suplus to requirements for £10 to Group Captain Allen H. Wheeler.
It was restored to airworthy condition in 1967 and flown in the movie "Battle of Britain" in 1968. It is seen here with a 53 OTU scheme as AR213/QG-A.
