Beside the fact that warm and cool colors created harmony. I wanted to do a warm and cool colors painting because of the subject matter. The subject is about split personality. And I chose to use monochromatic blue tonality for the cool figure because of its association with melancholy and also itís my favorite color. I wanted the cool figure to have an impression of sad and depression. Blue express emptiness and feeling of loss and loneliness, which is what I wanted from one of the figure, the dark side of oneself.
For the warm figure I used red and yellow to create a warm pink. The reason I chose pink is because the subject in the painting adore pink. This color light up the atmosphere and less emotional. For the background and fore ground I used warm on the cool figure half to make that part of the painting advance in space and cool on the warm figure side to balance the painting.
