I bought this for my “Spanish Hairdresser”s birthday. I put it on a tote bag and also bought the greeting card. She really loved both. I would have preferred the top of the hairdresser’s head in lieu of the client’s shoulders. I thought I had it adjusted that way but it’s still beautiful!! Thank you!

Great picture of the Angel Oak tree. Framed and used in a grouping of four cards I purchase here, of the Angel Oak tree. Love the way my idea worked out!

Wanted to send a very special card to my sister. Naturally I thought of John Junek's amazing work. My sister loved the card.

Artist's Description

This picture (original made of cut paper) was made as part of a special commission for an Episcopal parish near Bar Harbor, Maine. I chose to portray the saint on the rocky island surrounded by a border made up the seven lampstands that serve as one of the opening images of the book. At the top corners of the border are the Greek letters Alpha and Omega, representing the Beginning and the EndGod; the corresponding letters in Hebrew are at the bottom corners. John holds a scroll before him, presenting to us the symbol of Christ as the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world the theme at the very center of Johns vision and...

About David Raber

I make pictures out cut paper, with some details and special treatments added with acrylic paint and ink. In 2002 I converted to the Catholic faith and a few years later started making icons of Jesus Christ, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the saints, inspired mainly by the work of Byzantine mosaic artists whose pictures have adorned the walls of Eastern Orthdox churches for centuries. I also draw on themes and elements found in Orthodox panel icons and Western religious art of all sorts. My work is unique and innovative in may ways, yet very traditional in terms of the religious intent behind making icons in the first place, and I do consider that I am working in the living tradition of iconography that goes back very nearly to the time of...
