Description
Carpel and stamens. Macrophotograph of a flower of the Oranjezon variety of Hippeastrum sp. showing the stamens (lower right) and carpel (upper left). Each stamen (male reproductive part) consists of a pollen- bearing anther (yellow) on the end of a fine filament. The carpel is fertilized by pollen which lands on its stigma (pink) and travels down its slender style. In temperate climates, this plant must be grown in warm sheltered conditions.
