Photograph - Archival Giclee Print On Gallery-wrapped Canvas
This precious relic of a gas station is anything but standard. Found in the Navajo Nation east of Tuba City, Arizona, the layers of paint show through in the same color as the impossibly blue winter sky in the background. One generation's bright-and-shiny is the next generation's ancient history, and this sign is a shrine to a car culture that has changed forever, leaving a monumental artifact behind. Note also in the lower right the image of a Navajo woman put there by the Painted Desert cooperative as part of their huge public art project.
