Last November I was invited to take photos of a big rocket launch by a space startup company in the Mojave Desert in California. After the photoshoot I took the opportunity to travel that region. On Saturday night I drove 10,000 feet up to the White Mountains, located east of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest has living trees that are 4000 years old, some 5000 years. Dead trees survive for a very long time due to the dry and alkaline environment.

I hiked up to this ancient tree, guided only by the light of the moon. For this image I took three exposures with the Dream Lens, one focused on the starry sky, one long exposure focused on the tree that was lit up by the moon, and one focused on the tree which I lit up with an LED flood light while moving around.
