Note: This painting is signed and titled verso, and a photocopy of the artist's obituary from the Boston Globe is included. The title, written in the hand of the artist, reads "Stanley Simmons, Author." We believe the sitter was the successful Broadway costume designer. Simmons was assistant to the costume designer for Six Characters in Search of an Author, possibly explaining the 'author' reference following the sitter's name.
