Description
Staphylococcus toxins research. Chemist preparing egg samples for analysis of Staphylococcus aureus enterotoxins by surface plasmon resonance, a technique that has been adapted to detect bacteria. This bacterium can cause skin infections, respiratory disease, and food poisoning. The toxins can cause severe conditions such as toxic shock syndrome and scalded-skin syndrome. Enterotoxins are toxins that target the intestines. This research is being carried out by the Agricultural Research Service of the US Department of Agriculture.
