Roanoke is called the "Star City of the South" because of the star on Mill Mountain which overlooks the city. I had never painted such a wide view of it before and thoroughly enjoyed exploring all those beautiful buildings and playing around with their colors!

If you ever have a chance to visit you'll enjoy learning about it's unique history and exploring it's cultural offerings and the beautiful hiking trails with easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian Trail. Some of the buildings in this painting are the Wells Fargo Tower, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, St. Andrews Catholic Church, Roanoke Catholic School,The Taubman Museum of Art. In this view from Mill Mountain you can also see the Poff Building and the Norfolk Southern Building.

I grew up exploring the outdoors here in Southwest Virginia. My family would often go for long drives and end up hiking in the woods where my parents would identify plants and trees and point out animal tracks as they taught us to appreciate the awesomeness of God's creation.
