On a visit to Butchart Gardens near Victoria on Vancouver Island, BC I spotted this stunning double oriental lily, sometime called a Magic Star and other times called a Samantha Rose Lily. Regardless, it's unusual and electrifying in its high contrast bursting petals. I gave the painting a dark starry background for dramatic effect.
This painting is pure transparent watercolor on a full sheet of 300# Arches Cold Press paper. The image goes right through to the ragged deckle edges of the paper. It is mounted on archival foam core to reveal the deckle edges of the paper and framed with a contemporary white metal frame and plexiglass.
