Inspired by a Russian artist's depiction of Bethlehem I have imagined that the sky was alive with activity. Angels have awaited for eons for this one juxtamoment of history would have stirred the skies with power and there would have been plenty of reason for the shepherds to be terrified. "Be not afraid" is heaven's message each and every time an angel appears in the Scriptures.
