Looking for a statement piece? This is it! This gorgeous handcrafted pendant was made with a vivid bismuth crystal, wrapped in tarnish-resistant brass wire and features recycled vintage brass watch parts, a genuine Swarovski crystal and antique brass beads. This pendant, measures 50x36x16mm (2.0" x 1.4" x 0.6") and comes suspended on an 18"-long brass chain which, closes with a lobster-claw clasp. This is truly a one-of-a-kind piece, since each and every bismuth crystal is unique and it was wrapped to echo the dimensions and morphology of the crystal. What a conversation piece! Ethereal yellow and pink hues dance across the steps of the crystal as it turns in the light!
Our pendants are made to last! We wire-wrap all of our bismuth crystals to protect them from damage. Drilling weakens the structural integrity of the crystal & subjects it to shattering, while gluing can crack off, or shield areas of the crystal surface from exposure to the atmosphere, which is crucial to allowing the surface to oxidize in a natural way over time. The tinned copper wire used on this particular piece will also darken over time, intensifying the contrast between the rich colors of the crystal and the wire it is set in.
Bismuth is naturally a silvery-white color as a fresh crystal but acquires it's colorful, iridescent surface due to it's exposure to air and oxidation of it's surface. The spiral stair stepped structure of a bismuth crystal is the result of a higher growth rate around the outside edges than on the inside edges. The variations in the thickness of the oxide layer that forms on the surface of the crystal causes different wavelengths of light to interfere upon reflection, thus displaying a rainbow of colors. WOW!
Your pendant will arrive in a lovely gift box (shown image #5) and ship securely in a padded envelope with tracking direct from my studio to your chosen destination. Makes a great gift!
