Hi Kym, What a great capture of the Steller's Jay. F/V Ruth

Nice capture, Kym. Beautiful blue bird.V/F

Great shot, Kym. The light is perfect. Our neighborhood has Scrub Jays. Have you seen any? i'ina

Kym Backland replied:

I'ina, No, we don't have the Scrub Jays, I hear you either have to be closer to Eastern Washington, or up higher in the mountains.. I'm not sure that is true, but I have never seen a Scrub Jay in my area.... I love your photos.. thanks for coming by today!

I miss them in my backyard:) v

Kym Backland replied:

Eti, Oh you used to have them? Thanks for your vote!

Great shot of a beautiful bird-we certainly don't have them in Florida! v

Great looking bluejay. They are a little different then what we see here in Nebraska. Any way great shot, Kym. Voted.

Kym Backland replied:

Kym Backland replied:

Rona, Hello!! Wow, another comment I missed... thank you for stopping by, Sorry it took me so long to reply to your kind compliments! I hope your week turns out to be a wonderful and productive one Rona!

Kym,you don't seem to have had any "middle of the night " visitors lately! I check occasionally, and then noticed this Steller's Jay which is new to me as we only have the beautiful pinky ones and I'm not sure I've ever even seen one of those either!! Your photo of him is very lovely and he looks so exotic,as if he belongs somewhere tropical rather than a conifer forest! v/f

Kym Backland replied:

Jane, I'm sorry it took me so long to respond to this post! I seem to keep missing these posts for some reason! Anyways, I have had visitors in the night, I just haven't gotten out there to take their photos! Yes, you are correct, this Steller's Jay is one of the only birds that is "colorful" that stays here all year round! I've heard it said that they are the "Blue Cardinal" of the WEST... Thanks for your votes and clicking it as your favorite!

Marvellous capture, as if it posed for you!

Kym Backland replied:

Yelena, Thanks for your lovely comments.. sorry it took me so long to give you a response... not sure how I keep missing these comments.. Thanks again for your compliments..

About Acrylic Prints

Mounting Option #1

Mounting Option #2

Bring your artwork to life with the stylish lines and added depth of an acrylic print.   Your image gets printed directly onto the back of a 1/4" thick sheet of clear acrylic.

The image is the art - it doesn't get any cleaner than that!

All acrylic prints ship within 3 - 4 business days and arrive "ready to hang" with four aluminum mounting posts (Option #1) or hanging wire (Option #2).

The high gloss of the acrylic sheet complements the rich colors of any image to produce stunning results.

There are two different ways to mount your acrylic print.

Option #1 (Mounting Posts) - Attach your print to your wall with four aluminum mounting posts.   The cylindrical cap of each mounting post can be removed, allowing you to thread a small screw along the center axis of the of post and into the wall.   When you're finished, simply reattached each cap, and you're done.   The mounting posts act as stand-offs and keep your print separated from the wall by 1".   All of the required mounting hardware (i.e. posts, screws, and wall anchors) is included with your print.   Click here for mounting details.

Option #2 (Hanging Wire) - With this option, your acrylic print is attached to a 1/4" thick black board which has a wooden frame and hanging wire attached to the back.   There are no metal mounting posts at the corners.   Simply put a nail in your wall, hang your print from the hanging wire, and you're done.   Due to the thickness of the black board and mounting frame, your print is separated from the wall by 1.50"   Click here for mounting details.

Average Rating (5 Stars):

This rating is for Fine Art America only. Not the artist. I received this print on acrylic. It shows to have a silver back ground, but it was green-ish in real life. That didn't work for me so I needed to send it back. It cost me $32 to have it shipped, but $96....yes, NINETY SIX dollars to have it sent back. Fine Arts could have had a pre-printed label from their corporate account (like Amazon does) for it to be shipped back and then that ($32) amount deducted from my refund. They did not. So, basically I paid $120 to get a product that did not match the print online. Therefore, I will NEVER shop at Fine Art America again AND will warn everyone I know to beware.

I have seen this in person many times. I thought it would be nice to have a picture of it. I am so glad I got this.

I lived in the area and saw Mt. Rainier often. I used to call it "my" mountain. Now, I have a photo of it to remind me of its beauty.

I had 3 painting on my order. I ordered oversized images on acrylic with metallic mountings and they look beautiful in our restaurant. Planning to order another set for our other location!

Artist's Description

This Steller's Jay is young. He enjoys sitting on the deck and doing a little sunbathing. You can tell he is young and not fully grown. His head is still brown, and he has the grey down feathers underneath his brightly blue striped tail feathers. His head will turn black and this blue feature will turn a more colbalt blue. They are sure clowns. Jumping and hopping around. I didn't realize they can mimic other birds! Like a Parrot.. This one's parent does an Eagle call exactly, and gets all the other birds to leave the suet or bird feeder, and he takes over. I was constantly looking for "The Eagle" when I didn't see the Eagle for an hour, but kept hearing the call, I started to investigate! I realize this Steller's Jay was copying the sound exactly. He mimics many calls of other birds around here. I'm wondering how many of you birders have heard or noticed this? The Steller's Jay is a striking bird with deep blue and black plumage and a long, shaggy crest. The front of its body is blac...

About Kym Backland

Capturing a moment in time, is one of the best emotions. I love seeing something thru the lens and holding it near you as long as you can. I like for that image to be caught by surprise. A pure emotion. That to me is usually the most interesting. Anyways.... Photography is my medium. I do enjoy photographing those "Funny Animals" I see along the way........Laughter gets you thru a lot of hard times...I appreciate you taking the time to see what I see..... As you might have noticed I have never written a biography about myself for over 2 years. I figured I had better write one now. I'm definitely not going to write my "BIO" in the third person, so that I sound more important than I really am. Should I warn you that I have "run on"...
