Description
Tulip stigma. Macrophotograph of the stigma of a tulip flower (Tulipa gesneriana). The stigma is the three-lobed tip of the female reproductive organs of the plant. In the background here are the dark brown anthers, bearing the male pollen. The tip of the stigma is lightly dusted with this pollen, which burrows a small tube down through the green style under the stigma to reach the ovary, where it fertilises the female ovule.
