This image is a watercolor painting called “Still Life with Red Zinnia.”
Can you guess what I was trying to master with this painting? I enjoy painting flowers, and I am a trained botanical illustrator. I love that single red zinnia in the arrangement. But in this floral still life, I most wanted to capture the look of the stems in water. It is intriguing how there is an optical "break" in the stems right at the water line. And, of course, painting water is always a challenge. Nature is so fascinating!
