A beautifully-constructed, late 18th-century straight chair is bathed in summer sunlight underneath a west-facing window in the historic Thankful Arnold House in Haddam, Connecticut. Note the woven ash seat underneath the antique cloths.
Built in three separate stages between 1794-1810, today the Thankful Arnold House is the home of the Haddam Historical Society and has been restored and preserved in the style of the Widow Arnold's life during the 1820s, although many of the furnishings and much of the decor are much older.
