Without electricity, how do you get water out of the ground? This red cast iron hand pump is the answer. Like Desert Pete said in the old folk song, someone has to leave water in a mason jar for you to pour down into the pump, then you use its long handle and pump up and down until the water flows out of the spout from the well underneath the ground.
