I enjoy my coffee or tea in this handsome porcelain cup, "time-travelling" whilst researching French history in the Long 19th Century. 40-year old lame aristocrat Maurice Talleyrand, former Bishop of Autun fled to America to escape the Reign of Terror. He was living in a rented room, working as a banking and real estate agent in Philadelphia when about 1797 he and his friend Alexander Hamilton paid English pastel artist James Sharples a modest sum make their portraits, which they exchanged. After the tragic dueling death of Hamilton, his widow wrote to Talleyrand, (now back in France and Directoire Minister of Foreign Affairs) to request Hamilton's portrait, which hung over Talleyrand's mantlepiece. He restored to her, after having it copied. James Sharples' portrait of "The Lame Devil" is today in the Bristol (UK) art museum. The artist has caught the image of the proud, lonely exile, bored and homesick-- unsure if or when he can return to his beloved France. His astounding 45-year career as Europe's "Prince of diplomats" still lay before him. . . The mug is comfortable to hold, and of quality porcelain; I chose the mauve background to harmonise with the colour scheme of my living room.

I am very disappointed. I sent 2 coffee mugs to a friend as a gift and she notified me today that one arrived broken. Please send a replacement.
It is a cool rainy afternoon in an Old World alleyway of Europe -- Italy, perhaps. Warm lights emanate from the windows, casting their golden glow upon a young couple who only has eyes for one another.
There is a sense of mystery to the romance: the young woman appears to have just run from the doorway to the man. Standing on tiptoe in her stylish black high heels, she seems arrested in mid flight.
The man, face hidden behind fedora and red umbrella, has been standing there, waiting both impatiently and patiently. He looks upon the upturned face of the woman he loves as they prepare for an intimate and most delightful kiss. How fortuitous that they are alone, and there is no one to interrupt this sterling moment!
There is a sense of timeless vintage elegance to the image: the buildings, the stone steps of the street, the bicycle, the clothing of both the man and the woman, are nostalgic, bespeaking a time, not that long ago, when fashions were classic and classy;...
I am a fine art painter who creates representational images celebrating light, life, and color. A commercial illustrator for more than 20 years, I have been painting for most of my life, and in the last 18 years have focused exclusively on fine art. I celebrate images that invite the viewer to step into the artwork and experience a sense of joy, peace, freedom, encouragement, meditation, and thought. There's a lot of angry art out there, as well as a lot of shallow pop. I choose to use the abilities and experience I have to promote beauty and goodness.
