This is an addition to my series “Coastal Fortifications.” The hard edges of these stone steps that hug the wall (and have no handrails) contrast with the soft textures and shadings on the walls. Worn, weathered, painted, scratched, scraped, and even moldy artistic compositions are there for the finding when we look just a bit closer. This image created at Fort Casey on Whidbey Island, Washington.
