Stonehenge stands on the Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire. Arguably the most famous prehistoric stone circle in the world, Stonehenge history is shrouded in mystery. Who built Stonehenge? Why was Stonehenge built? How did the builders accomplish such an engineering feat?
The ancient monument stands amidst hundreds of Neolithic and Bronze Age sites--stone circles, burial chambers, hillside carvings, etc. The densest concentration of prehistoric sites in England. Speculation abounds as to the sites original purpose--religious ceremonial site, ancient calendar, burial ground, astronomical observation, healing center, alien landing zone. Given the monuments, size, scale and location, Stonehenge must have been of vital importance to those who built it.
The image's colors were muted in post-production to emphasize the shrouded mystery of Stonehenge's past.
Image initially captured with a Canon 50D, Canon EFS 15-85 IS USM, lens.
