I bought this in the greeting card form. I have been purchasing cards from Fine Art America for two or three years. Covid might have been some of the reason for looking for cards on the internet. Shops were closed. The main reason I buy cards from FAA is because I got tired of looking for cards at the usual card shops. I could find cards (sometimes) that looked good on the outside but the verses were terrible or it was the other way around...terrible on the outside but maybe a decent verse inside. I pick cards from FAA that fit with the occasion. I figure I can write something on the inside as good as any card company could. I wouldn't buy these cards if I didn't think they were wonderful. The cards are beautiful and excellent quality and the envelopes are equality as good. I am glad I can make a copy of what I've bought so I can keep track of who gets what card. I don't want to send the same card to someone twice. In this case, the card is going to someone for Mother's Day.

Uncle Remus: "Now, this here tale didn't happen just yesterday, nor the day before. 'Twas a long time ago. And in them days, everything was mighty satisfactual. The critters, they was closer to the folks, and the folks, they was closer to the critters, and if you'll excuse me for saying so, 'twas better all around."
This image shows the interior of one of the existing slave quarter cabins on Laura sugar Plantation in Vacherie, Louisiana. The wooden plank walls and floor are weathered with age, and the cane bottom ladder back chair is the exact place where I could imagine Uncle Remus sitting to tell his African animal tales to the children. The chair, wooden foot rest and bowl are highlighted by light coming from the room's single window.
It was here at Laura Plantation that Alcee Fortier, who later became Professor of Romance Languages and folklore at Tulane University, was said to have collected Louisiana Creole versions of the West African Br'er Rabbit stories in...
Cheri Randolph was awarded a degree in Fine Arts from the University of New Orleans with a concentration in the study of Art History. She credits printmaker, Calvin Harlan , a UNO professor, as being quite influential in her composition techniques as well as painter, Ida Kohlmeyer with a better understanding of color. Pictorialism would best describe her current work, stylistically. Cheri has expressed her artistic talents in a variety of ways including; wheel-thrown pottery, quilting, vintage clothing restoration, interior decorative painting and photography. She is a resident of both the Houston Heights and historic New Orleans Uptown. A favorite quote is, "The bird of time has but a little way to flutter - and the bird is on the...

William, I'm sure the stories would have a receptive audience. When you next come to New Orleans you should visit Laura plantation for more inspiration. It is one of the more interesting ones in Louisiana. Thanks for commenting and the v/f!

Cheri, a fine image and a great back story! Didn't realize that the Uncle Remus stories had other origins than Harris. I love the fact that these stories originated in African culture. I have a friend in Zimbabwe who sent me animal stories from the Shona culture for a long time. I felt that one day I'd edit and publish them. I think your picture and research might be the shove I needed. voted, favorite

v9, great image and very interesting sidebar. In our pc world does anyone remember Br'er Rabbit? A great children'b book that I remember very well, thank you for the history lesson.
Cheri Randolph replied:
Bob, I'm glad that you found this interesting. All the children in our extended family remember the stories well, as Br'er Rabbit was my usual contribution to the story hour. It's funny that any adults who were in the vicinity would also gather 'round.
